Doctor Octopus

Doctor Octopus Comic and Movie Review
In the comics, Doctor Octopus's name was Otto Gunther Octavius and he was a scientist who created a harness that fit around his body with four mechanical arms attached the it and Doctor Octavius controlled the arms with his mind like any part of his body. He had an accident while conducting an experiment that caused an explosion that made the harness on Octavius's body attach to his skin along with the arms. Doctor Octavius woke up in a hospital and was furious thinking he was kept prisoner, so he escaped and began a life of crime with his four arms and he has encountered Spider-man many times and had several battles with him, and Doctor Octopus also created the sinister six. The Ultimate Marvel version of Doctor Octopus is younger and very muscular. While the original incarnation wore sunglasses due to nearsightedness, the Ultimate Spider-man version wears them to disguise horrible wounds inflicted on his eyes during the accident that created him, that leave him very sensitive to light. His arms are also different: he modifies them so that their ends are made up of nanobots, and thus can have various lethal accessories, transforming the three-pronged 'claws' into flamethrowers, tasers, and machine guns. Ultimate Six revealed he had a psychic link with his arms and could control them remotely. Ultimate Spider-Man revealed that he also has the ability to manipulate metal. In the Spider-man 2 movie, Doctor Octopus (played by Alfred Molina) was the main villain. He started out as a scientist who work with Harry Osborn to help Oscorp industries. He created a machine that created a mini sun and gave a lot of energy and Doctor Octavius used his four arms to control it, but the machine malfunctioned causing and explosion that follows the same story line from his origin in the comics. In the movie he had turned evil with his four mechanical arms and wanted to recreate the same machine no matter what the cost was. In the end he ends up helping Spider-man save the city from the effects of his creation, and destroying the machine leading to his death and his body is seen sinking into the bottom of a lake with the machine. In my opinion I believe that actor Alfred Molina was great and amazing portraying Doctor Octopus and stayed true to the comics.

He is also seen in the Spectacular Spider-man TV series and in this version he is shorter and he stays true to the comics by wearing a green suit under a trench coat which resembles the one from the movie. In the Ultimate Spider-man TV series, his body is paralyzed and he depends on his arms for movement. This version is much darker, nastier and also true to the ultimate comics. His arms also look like the ones seen in the Amazing Spider-man 2 cameo.

The Amazing Spider-man movie Doctor Octopus
Doctor Otto Octavius is not seen or mentioned in the Amazing Spider-man movie, but in the Amazing Spider-man 2 his arms can be seen near the end of the movie along with Vulture's wings. This cameo of his arms might lead to a possible appearance of him in a future Amazing Spider-man film and the Sinister Six spin-off film. His arms look like the Ultimate version of his arms. Doctor Octavius is mentioned working for Oscorp in the Oscorp website www.Oscorp Industries - Home in the "Faces of Oscorp" section.
